  • Creditors of music and media mogul Robert F.X. Sillerman are seeking to force him into bankruptcy over a $7.36m judgment against him. (CelebrityAccess)
  • VNUE, a publicly-traded company specialising in live concert recordings and experiential content for music fans, will be acquiring music identification and rights startup Soundstr. (Billboard)
  • Word-of-mouth software for live events company Verve is rolling out the platform in six new languages and with local teams to support its growing European client base in Germany, France, Spain, Belgium and The Netherlands. (RotD)
  • LANDR Audio announced today that it will begin digital distribution to Beatport, the world’s largest electronic music store for DJs. (RotD)
  • Discogs, the digital database and marketplace that has grown into a go-to hub for vinyl lovers, has unveiled a new leadership structure and begun rolling out a new set of initiatives. (Billboard) The company saw a 20% increase in the number of releases sold in its marketplace last year.
  • IMS has partnered with Deeper Sounds to present IMS keynotes on all British Airways in-flight audio entertainment, the February show featuring Seth Troxler in conversation with Pete Tong at IMS Ibiza 2014 is now live, previous featured keynotes include The Martinez Brothers, Yann Pissenem, Bernard Sumner and The Pet Shop Boys.   • Online independent music marketplace Bandcamp paid out more than $270m to artists in 2017. Sales were up for digital albums (16%), digital tracks (33%), merchandise (36%), vinyl (54%), cassettes (41%) and CD (18%). Revenue from the 3,500 independent labels on Bandcamp grew 73%. "The majority of music consumption will eventually take place within the subscription rental services of two or three enormous corporations, who can afford to lose money on music because it attracts customers to the parts of their businesses that are profitable".
  • At a conference, SoundCloud’s CEO explained how he convinced the board not to sell, saying it was a “one-of-a-kind asset”. (Recode) He said the company would now focus more on its products offered to audio creators — SoundCloud Pro and SoundCloud Pro unlimited. Its invite-only Premier program, which gives artists a share of ad revenue, will include hundreds of thousands of artists in two years. (CNet)
  • YouTube Red will expand its subscription service to as many as 100 countries, according to YouTube Chief Executive Susan Wojcicki. (TechCrunch, Recode)

  • More details have emerged about a cutting-edge new “crystal ball” entertainment venue set for London’s Olympic Park that will “revolutionise” concerts and live events. (Standard, IQ, Billboard, CelebrityAccess) The Madison Square Garden Company are to open the MSG Sphere in Las Vegas this June featuring “game-changing technologies that push the limits of connectivity, acoustics, video and content distribution”. The London venue is still in the early stages of planning, but will be based on the MSG Sphere concept.
